STAR WARS: Solo Review

Updated: Jun 13, 2018

Finally got the time to go see the new Solo movie. This is a review of this film as we board the Millennium Falcon and journey to a galaxy far, far away in Solo: A Star Wars Story. This is an all-new adventure with the most beloved scoundrel in the galaxy; Han Solo. Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his mighty future copilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga's most unlikely heroes.

If you liked the original Star Wars Trilogy, then this is a must see in order to gain a perspective of Han Solo's origin. The movie starts off as a love story and that love story is always playing in the background, but we see the Solo character's arc as he will eventually become the charismatic smuggling scoundrel we all know and love. From his first encounter with Chewbacca, to his first dealings with Lando Calrissian and his first flight and the Cessel Run so famously mentioned in the original Trilogy.

Ron Howard takes the helm in this creation of Solo's origins, but the movie is predictable in its story. The saving grace is a bright and breezy sideshow adventure which makes up for its overly frantic pacing with a charismatic central turn from Alden Ehrenreich — strong enough to make us want to see even more of him in Solo mode.
